Hey !

I always say, “Everyone is looking to hire people; they just don’t know who you are.”

I say this because so many people are incredibly capable and qualified for various opportunities. They have the right degrees and certifications—something that, two to three years ago, granted access to certain opportunities. But today, that’s just the bare minimum. With increasing competition, you need to go the extra mile. This means developing not just your hard and technical skills but also your social and soft skills.

The Misunderstanding Around Upskilling

For the longest time, upskilling has been misunderstood. Many believe it only applies to technical skills—getting certifications, learning to code, and so on. However, true upskilling starts with understanding your Point A (where you are now) and Point B (where you want to be). The key is identifying the gap between these two points and developing the skills and habits needed to bridge that gap.

Upskilling isn’t just about technical knowledge—it’s about continuous self-assessment and ensuring that as you move through your career, you're always adapting and growing.

Balancing Skills and Personality

Career success doesn’t just come to those who are the most skilled—it comes to those who are also great individuals, with strong personalities, and who can effectively showcase their experiences and work.

When I transitioned from kinesiology to consulting, many told me I wouldn’t get a job because I came from a science background. At the time, most applicants for the same roles had business degrees or even MBAs. I wondered if this would put me at a disadvantage. But after speaking with employers and managers, I realized one thing: what employers truly look for is credibility.

The Power of Visible Credibility

Credibility isn’t just about degrees and certificates—it comes from experiences and providing concrete evidence of what you’ve done before and how you can bring value to an employer. Employers want to see a return on their investment in you.

But credibility alone isn’t enough. Once you’ve built your experience and gathered evidence of your abilities, you need to make sure people know about it. This is the concept of visible credibility—actively sharing your journey, work, and impact so that the right people recognize your value.

So as you work on your career growth, remember: Develop your skills, build your credibility, and make it visible. That’s how you stand out.

  4. Don’t be willing to Settle for Less- Don’t settle for the first job or the first opportunity that comes by, recognize the value you bring to the table and be selective of opportunities to find the RIGHT ones that do not just benefit you for TODAY but also in the FUTURE

  5. Surround yourself with the RIGHT people. No matter how much I tell you this will be less but really be selective of you surround yourself with, the phrase you are the average of 5 people around you is no joke. You need to really think about who are your friends, your mentors and your sponsors and what values do they showcase and does that reflect the values you want to incorporate as well
