Coffee Chats: Brew & Connect!

The Power of Coffee Chats! ☕🤝

How are you? How has your last week been?😇

I know at least for a lot of students especially international students, the previous week has been rather hectic, sad or as some quoted in an event we hosted today “a rollercoaster.” 😟

It is majorly because a lot of you have exams and the pressure to land jobs does not make it any better, but here is something that honestly has been a game changer for me and helped me land 4 job offers in 1 year before graduating in Top 4 consulting firms.

And that is coffee chats, which I know a lot of us do but the point is, are you doing it right?

Here are 3 things that you should do whenever you have a coffee chat coming up:

Set the intention and the expectations for the chat, you can do so by sending them an email to them or a LinkedIn message to them as a follow up once they have confirmed having the call with you so they know what you are hoping to learn from the call and helps them be aware and comfortable.

Do your research, make sure when you prep for the chat, you look at questions beyond the average and regular that you can find on ChatGPT and study their profiles on Linkedln to get a better understanding of who they are, their context, certain specific experiences or project they did, favourite sport, travels etc.

Practice the flow of the chat before, by doing it in the mirror with yourself or on your laptop camera and just practice the intro and how you would kick off the call, small talk you can do etc. The more you practice the better and more confident you will get. It does not happen overnight

And now, Checkout great opportunities & events coming up:)👇

🪄A few quick tips given by the mentors in our network when asked ‘On simple things students can do that make a difference in chats’ and they said:

➡️Be curious and ask thoughtful questions and listen with genuine interest.
➡️Keep it real and honest interaction as authenticity goes a long way.
➡️ Follow up, send a simple thank-you email or message on any platform you are connected with them to keep the connection alive.
